YHA Youlgreave

YHA England & Wales is a charity with over 150 properties, open to anyone from schools, to families, couples and backpackers.

In 2020, Invest in Derbyshire supported the new owners of YHA Youlgreave Hostel to establish in the Derbyshire Dales.

The visitor economy is a significant element of the Derbyshire economy, generating £2.5 billion for the local economy, supporting 31,000 jobs and attracting 45 million visitors annually.

The hostel owner’s investment plans include strengthening community links and delivery of an eco-friendly service. Invest in Derbyshire provided introductions to key local businesses who could support their plans, signposting to funding and introductions to local skills providers.

YHA decided to sell their hostel in Youlgreave, and I wanted to buy it, keep it as a hostel but add a bakery, café and bike shop to the premises. I already knew the wider area, but not Youlgreave. Katie at Invest in Derbyshire has been a brilliant contact for me, and introduced me to so many potential partners.

Colin Trigg, YHA Youlgreave
